This weeks Hussle Topic is all about truths nobody tells you about becoming a creative entrepreneur.

Yo Hussle fam,

Being a creative entrepreneur is an exciting journey filled with passion and innovation. However, it's not all sunshine and rainbows. There are some uncomfortable truths you need to be aware of as you embark on this path. Understanding these realities can help you navigate the challenges and stay resilient.

Here are the 6 uncomfortable truths about being a creative entrepreneur:

1. Not everyone is meant to be an entrepreneur and that’s okay.

Entrepreneurship isn't for everyone, and that's perfectly okay. Some people thrive in structured environments where roles and expectations are clear. There's no shame in preferring the stability and predictability of a traditional job.

Don’t be fooled by the awards, the followers, the so-called success. The grass isn’t always greener. Many leading creatives are still trying to make ends meet in some way. You can be successful and fulfilled without being an entrepreneur. It’s important to recognize what path aligns with your strengths and values.

Also, if your sole reason for being an entrepreneur is because you don’t want a boss, realize you will always have a boss—whether it’s your clients, your customers, or your investors. The demands and expectations will always be there.

2. Your friends are not your audience

As much as you’d love your friends to be your biggest supporters, they are not your target audience. Friends might show initial interest or support, but they are not the ones who will sustain your business.

You need to reach beyond your immediate circle to find your true audience—people who genuinely resonate with your work and are willing to pay for it. Focus on building a community of supporters who appreciate your unique value.

3. You won’t make money straight away

The dream of overnight success is just that—a dream. In reality, it takes time to start making money as a creative entrepreneur. You’ll likely face financial challenges in the beginning, and it’s crucial to be prepared for this.

Diversify your income streams, keep your expenses low, and be patient. The early stages are about building a solid foundation, refining your craft, and growing your audience.

Financial success will come, but it won’t be immediate.

4. However long you think it’s going to take, double it

Patience is a virtue, especially in the creative industry. Whatever timeline you have in mind for achieving success, double it. The journey to “making it” is often longer and more challenging than you anticipate.

Set realistic goals and timelines, and be prepared for setbacks and delays. The extended timeline allows you to develop resilience and adaptability, which are crucial traits for long-term success.

5. No one cares until everyone cares

One of the harshest realities you’ll face is that initially, no one will care about your work. You might pour your heart and soul into your creations, but recognition and support will be hard to come by at first.

This can be discouraging, but it’s essential to keep pushing forward. The key is to stay consistent, keep improving, and eventually, your persistence will pay off. When you finally break through, it will seem like everyone cares all at once.

5. It’s probably easier to actually have a job

One of the toughest truths is that being a creative entrepreneur is probably harder than having a traditional job. A job provides stability, a clear structure, and a regular paycheck. In contrast, entrepreneurship requires you to constantly hustle, manage multiple roles, and face financial uncertainties.

The level of dedication and self-motivation needed can be overwhelming. The rewards can be great, but the journey is relentless. For those who are truly passionate and willing to endure the challenges, the fulfillment and freedom can be immensely satisfying.

Being a creative entrepreneur is a fulfilling but challenging journey. Embrace these uncomfortable truths and let them fuel your drive. Remember, persistence, patience, and passion are your best allies. Keep creating, keep hussling, and most importantly, keep believing in yourself.

Stay hussling
