dear family
It’s December, and you can already feel that pressure everyone puts on themselves - the whole “wrap up your year properly” and “January is your big reset” vibe. It’s like the world collectively decides this is the only moment where you’re allowed to rethink your life.
But the more I’ve grown, the more I realise… that’s not real. You don’t need January to start again. You don’t need a new year to make a change. A reset isn’t linked to a date. It’s linked to a decision.
And I say that because I’ve fallen into that trap before - thinking everything has to be reinvented in December, that I need the perfect plan for January, that I have to become some upgraded version of myself in the space of two weeks.
But when I look back at the times I’ve really shifted my life, none of them happened in January. Most of them happened randomly on days where I was just tired of my own excuses, or days where things finally clicked, or days where I just felt ready.
December makes you reflect, yes. But reflection doesn’t mean you have to burn everything down. Sometimes the reflection just tells you to continue. And we don’t talk about that enough. Continuing is a form of progress. Keeping steady is a form of progress. Even slowing down can be progress.
You don’t have to reinvent your whole life this month. You don’t need some dramatic change for the sake of it. Sometimes the most powerful thing you can do going into a new year is keep going with what’s already working with a bit more focus, a bit more honesty, a bit more intention.
So if you’re reading this thinking, “I haven’t figured out my reset yet,” or “I don’t have my January plan,” breathe. You’re not behind. You’re not late. Your reset can happen whenever you decide. And if right now you don’t feel like resetting? That’s fine too.
Consistency counts just as much as reinvention.
Move at your pace.
Start when it feels right.
Continue when that’s what’s needed.
You don’t need January. You just need clarity and that can come any day you’re ready for it.
